I’m a writer and journalist. A sizable chunk of my work has something to do with American religion or conservative political movements. But I also write about politics, culture, and activism in general.
I’m also interested in fan culture, hence a feature story on the Harry Potter Alliance (a group of Harry Potter fans who are active in humanitarian aid) and a piece on Manhattan’s strangest public access show.
You can find me writing up breaking news every weekday at Slatest, Slate‘s news blog. I’m also a contributor at Slate’s main site. I’m a U.S. correspondent for the New Humanist (U.K.), and a contributor to the Revealer, a daily review of religion and the media. My work has also appeared at lit mag Nervous Breakdown, at Religion & Politics, and in the Columbia Journalism Review. Once, I reviewed bars for a now-defunct nightlife publication, but let’s speak of that no more.
I have an M.A. in Religious Studies and Journalism from NYU, where I completed an academic and journalistic thesis on the American anti-Sharia movement.
